15 Ways to Improve your Mood, Health + Happiness

Hola, I'm back from Costa Rica! My intention was to bring back warm weather with me and I think I made it happen. ;) At least here in Jersey! I'm feeling very refreshed, restored and ready to dive back into work fully after allowing myself time away from my laptop, practicing yoga in tree houses, swimming in the ocean, and drink lots of smoothies + fresh coconuts.

In my opinion, taking a break + giving yourself s p a c e for relaxation is one of the most productive things you can do.

Back to my topic... Have you heard of Blue Zones? I didn’t realize that I would be in one of the 5 Blue Zones of the world until I got there. To sum it up very briefly ... Blue zones are areas of the world where people live healthier and longer than anywhere else on earth and so far only 5 have been identified.

After doing a little more research on the lifestyle practices of Blue Zones to prolong a vibrant life + health and me naturally adapting to the pura vida way of life, I made a list of practices to empower you to improve your mood, health, and happiness every day.

I definitely felt the power of these practices while away on vacation. My goal is to keep it going now that I’m home, when life + distractions can get in the way. Are you with me?

15 Ways to Improve Your Mood, Health + Happiness

  1. Meditate every day.

  2. Slow down - stop rushing from point A to point B. Give yourself more time to get ready in the morning. If you can, walk or ride your bike instead of driving.

  3. Set an intention every morning.

  4. Stop eating when your stomach is 80% full.

  5. Eat mostly plants.

  6. Eat the smallest meal of the day in the evening.

  7. Move your body naturally - Walk, bike, yoga, swim, pilates. Get your body moving with exercise you enjoy. No need to kill yourself at the gym or with exercise that stresses your body out, which is completely counterproductive.

  8. Gratitude. Focus on what you’re thankful for every. single. day.

  9. Surround yourself with inspiration (friends, books, podcasts, affirmations, etc.)

  10. Green juice + smoothies and of course fresh coconuts if you can find them <3

  11. Play your favorite + uplifting music.

  12. Love. Spend time with your family, partner, and friends.

  13. Reduce stress. Nap, sit in the sun, breathe, practice meditation + yoga, surf, whatever helps you de-stress.

  14. Drink alcohol in moderation.

  15. Journal. Carry a journal with you for those bursts of inspiration, which can happen at any moment. I will be carrying a small journal with me from now on. I like journaling at night as well for a “brain dump” to promote amazing sleep.

Oh and one more.... smile. Smile at strangers and everyone you see. It releases endorphins and you will most likely make someone’s day. :)))

I hope this list inspires you to begin incorporating some of these practices into your every day routine. Even if you start with just one will make a big difference. Let me know how it goes!
