Protein Packed Decadent Chocolate Brownies

Looking for a chocolate dessert that not only tastes good but is healthy and satisfying?! Look no further!

I'm a BIG fan of chocolate but not a fan of all the refined sugar & processed junk that can go into it (so unnecessary!). Whenever I have a craving for chocolate I usually make a healthified version myself - that way I know exactly what's going into my food.

These are my go-to brownies. First off they are super EASY to make. They are moist and light because they don't contain any flour so you won't feel that heavy bloated feeling after you eat them.

AND for the coolest part (at least I think so), the secret ingredient is ... black beans!

The beans add fiber and protein so one brownie (or maybe 2 ;) will leave you feeling satisfied!

  • 1 (15-ounce) can no-salt-added black beans, drained and rinsed

  • 3 organic eggs

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)

  • 1/4 cup cacao powder (you can use cocoa powder but it does not contain nutrients)

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 2 teaspoon gluten-free vanilla extract

  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup raw honey (I used 1/3 and found them sweet but not too sweet)

  • 1/2 cup gluten free and dairy free chocolate chips (I like EnjoyLife brand)

  • 4 drops of peppermint doTERRA essential oil. (optional)


Preheat oven to 350°F.

Oil an 8-inch baking pan. Place the black beans, eggs, oil, cacao powder, salt, vanilla extract and agave nectar in the bowl of a food processor or Vitamix and blend until smooth. Gently stir in the chocolate chips. Transfer mixture to the prepared pan. Bake the brownies for 25 to 30 minutes, or until just set in the center (you can tell by sticking a toothpick in the center and if it comes out clean, the brownies are done). Cool before cutting into squares.
